Apple Pie

Apple Pie

This homemade apple pie recipe is so yummy! Super simple to make with tender apples in a flaky crust.

PREP TIME: 20 mins
COOK TIME: 45 mins
SERVINGS: 8

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon great nutmeg
  • 6 cups apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pastry for the double crust (9 inches)
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tbsp butter

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Set aside the sugars, flour, and spices in a small bowl. Toss apples with lemon juice in a big bowl. Toss in the sugar mixture to coat.
  2. Trim the bottom crust to be even with the edge of a 9-inch pie plate. Dot with butter and fill with apple mixture.
  3. Roll out the remaining crust to fit the top of the pie; place it on top of the filling.
  4. Edges should be trimmed, sealed, and fluted. Make slits in the crust.
  5. Brush the crust with the beaten egg white until it is foamy. Sprinkle with sugar if desired.
  6. Wrap the foil around the edges loosely.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes at 375°F. Remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Allow cooling on a wire rack.
