Red Velvet is a new box of chocolates. I’m not sure why; as far as I know, red velvet has always traditionally been a southern holiday treat. But I like it this time of year.
So what makes something red velvet? Well, it kind of depends on what you’re making. The hallmark of anything “velvet” is the addition of some cocoa, but not enough to make it chocolate. The entire pan of these blondies only has 1 tablespoon.

It’s the marriage of red velvet cake and brownies! These are like cookies but thick and rich, almost fudgy. And they’ are purely red velvet!

Ingredients

2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons red food coloring
1/2 cup white chocolate candy melts or white chocolate chips, optional
