Salted Caramel Tart

Why This Salted Caramel Tart Is the Best

Rich and Buttery Caramel: The caramel filling is smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced with a touch of salt. It’s made with simple ingredients but delivers a complex, indulgent flavor.

Crisp Tart Shell: The tart shell is buttery and crisp, providing the perfect contrast to the soft caramel filling. It holds up well and adds a delightful texture to each bite.

Elegant and Impressive: This tart is not only delicious but also visually stunning. It’s a great dessert to serve at dinner parties or special gatherings.

Ingredient Notes:

For the Tart Crust:

All-purpose flour: Forms the base of the crust, providing structure and a flaky texture.

Unsalted butter (cold and cubed): Creates a rich, tender, and flaky crust by adding fat and moisture. The cold butter helps form small pockets that melt during baking, making the crust light and crispy.

Powdered sugar: Sweetens the crust and gives it a smoother texture compared to granulated sugar.

Egg: Helps bind the dough together and adds richness, contributing to a tender crust.

For the Walnut Caramel Filling:

Granulated sugar & water: Cooked together to create the caramel, which forms the sweet, rich base for the filling.

Heavy cream: Adds creaminess to the caramel, giving it a smooth, luxurious texture.

Walnut pieces: Add crunch and a rich, nutty flavor, balancing the sweetness of the caramel.

Sea salt: Enhances the caramel flavor and creates the “salted caramel” taste.

Serving Suggestions

Room Temperature or Chilled: Salted caramel tart can be enjoyed at room temperature or chilled. Chilling it makes the caramel firmer and the tart easier to slice.

With a Hot Beverage: Pair this tart with a hot cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa for the ultimate comforting treat. The warmth of the drink complements the rich caramel flavor perfectly.

For Dessert or a Special Treat: This tart is versatile enough to serve as a dessert or a special treat. It’s perfect for sharing at parties or enjoying as an indulgent snack.

Tips for Perfect Salted Caramel Tart

Use High-Quality Ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the flavor. Look for high-quality butter, cream, and chocolate for the best results.

Don’t Overcook the Caramel: Keep a close eye on the caramel as it cooks. It should be a deep amber color but not burnt. Overcooking can make it bitter.

Let It Cool Completely: Allow the tart to cool completely before slicing. This helps the caramel set and makes slicing easier.

Salted Caramel Tart

This Salted Caramel Tart is the best pastry to make as it is low ingredients for the holidays and the results are superb!

Prep time: 1 hour
Cook time: 15 mins
Total time: 1 hour 15 mins
Serves: 12 SERVINGS

INGREDIENTS

for the tart crust:
1½ cups of all-purpose flour
½ cup of powdered sugar
½ teaspoon of kosher salt
1 stick of unsalted butter, cold, and cut into cubes
1 large egg
1 tablespoon of olive oil

for the walnut caramel filling:
¾ cup of granulated sugar
¼ cup of water
¾ cup of Hood Heavy Cream
1 tablespoon of unsalted butter, cold
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract or ½ tablespoon vanilla paste
1 teaspoon of sea salt
1½ cups of walnut pieces

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Add all the ingredients for the tart crust into a food processor and pulse until everything is mixed and a ball of dough forms off the side of the processor. Use plastic wrap to wrap the dough and refrigerate for  2 hours.

2. Preheat the oven to 350F once the dough has chilled, and lightly grease a 9-inch tart pan. Just set aside.

3. Over the floured surface, roll the dough out then press into the tart pan. Dock with a fork and bake for around 20 mins until the edges of the tart pan are lightly golden brown. While you make the filling, cool on a wire rack.

4. In a tall saucepan, mix the sugar and water with your hands until all of the sugar is just like wet sand. Put over medium heat and do not stir, because, the sugar will crystallize. As it melts and cooks, the sugar will change into a gorgeous golden color, so you can carefully place the measured cream over it when it is a light golden color. It’s going to bubble like crazy, so stand back for a second, and stir and lower the heat with a whisk in your hand. For a second, the sugar will stick to the whisk and then melt again. Add the salt, butter, and vanilla, remove from the heat and keep stirring. Set aside for 15 minutes to cool down.

5. When the caramel thickens slightly, place the walnuts on the cooled tart shell in a single layer and carefully pour the caramel over the walnuts, making sure it is everywhere in the tart. Use a fork to carefully move around the walnuts to make sure there is caramel in each spot.

6. Before serving, chill the tart to set the caramel and enjoy it chilled!
