Ingredient Notes:
- Desiccated coconut: Provides the base of the filling, contributing a rich, tropical flavor and a chewy texture.
- Powdered sugar: Sweetens the coconut mixture and helps bind it together by absorbing moisture from the condensed milk.
- Sweetened condensed milk: Acts as the glue for the coconut and sugar mixture, adding creaminess and additional sweetness.
- Dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips: Used for coating the coconut balls, providing a rich, slightly bitter contrast to the sweet filling.
- Shortening: Helps thin out the melted chocolate, making it smoother and easier to coat the coconut balls, while also giving the chocolate a glossy finish.
