Ingredients

  • 1 18 to 19-ounce box brownie mix, preferably Ghiradelli’s
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup semi sweet chocolate chips optional
  • Flaky salt optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Set one rack near the top and one near the bottom. Line two big baking sheets with parchment and set them aside.
  • In a medium bowl, pour in your melted butter. It should feel warm, not hot. Stir in the egg until it blends nicely.
  • Add the brownie mix and keep stirring until every dry bit disappears and the batter looks smooth.
  • Scoop the dough into little mounds, about a heaping tablespoon each, and place them on the sheets with plenty of space between them. Usually fit six on a large pan.
  • If you want to spoil everyone a little, press a few chocolate chips on top and finish with a light pinch of flaky salt.
  • Slide the pans into the oven and bake for about twelve minutes. Halfway through, switch the pans from top to bottom so they bake evenly.
  • When the centers look shiny but no longer wet, they are ready.
  • Let them cool a few minutes, then lift them gently onto a rack to finish cooling.
  • Bake the rest the same way, and enjoy them warm or after they settle.
