Ingredients

  • ½ cup of high quality unsalted butter
  • 3 overripe bananas mashed, 1 cup
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour 225g
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp full fat sour cream
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • First, preheat your oven to 325°F. Grab a 9x5 loaf pan, line it with parchment paper, and give it a light brush of butter or a quick spray with cooking spray.
  • Now, let’s make that dreamy brown butter! Place your butter in a light-colored medium saucepan over medium heat. Watch as it melts, foams, and sizzles—it’s like magic happening in your kitchen. After about 5-8 minutes, the butter will turn a gorgeous golden brown, and you’ll see the milk solids at the bottom toasting to perfection. Once that happens, take it off the heat and let it sit for a sec.
  • In a big mixing bowl, combine your mashed bananas, white sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, whole milk, and sour cream. Give it a good mix. Then, carefully pour in your brown butter and stir until everything comes together.
  • Next, add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix gently until just combined—don’t overdo it! Finally, fold in those chocolate chips.
  • Pour your batter into the prepared loaf pan, sprinkle a few extra chocolate chips on top (because why not?), and pop it into the oven. Bake for 70-80 minutes, or until a toothpick in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, let it cool for about 10 minutes. Slice it up, spread on some softened butter, and enjoy every gooey, chocolaty bite!

Notes

  • Be patient and let your banana bread cool completely, seriously completely! Storing it while it’s still warm will make it soggy, and nobody wants that.
  • Once cooled, you can keep it on the counter in a sealed container, or wrap it up snugly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. It will stay perfectly delicious for up to 4 days.
  • Want to enjoy it later? Banana bread freezes beautifully! Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and pop it in the freezer. When you’re ready to indulge, leave it on the counter overnight and it will thaw to room temperature, just like freshly baked.
